Access to nature is a key factor in reducing patient and staff stress and leads to better outcomes, according to the Center for Health Design. The Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals even recommends that patients and visitors should have chakra healing opportunities to connect with nature through outside spaces, plants, indoor atriums and views from windows. The terms healing garden and therapeutic garden are sometimes used interchangeably, but they mean different things in the horticultural world, according to Larson.
